On Saturday, we had French toast and fresh pineapple for breakfast. An hour later, Son came over to give me a big snuggle -- and in the way that is peculiar to very young children, whose skin seems to retain smells like sun and fresh air and strawberries, he still had the faint odor of his recent breakfast on him.
I took a big whiff and caressed his hair. "Mmm...you smell like pineapple. Lovely."
He leaned in to take a deep sniff of his own, burying his nose in the curve of my neck. Then he pulled back, thinking hard for a moment before it came to him. Smiling a beautiful smile, he returned the sentiment in a warm, friendly voice: "And you smell like stinky shoes."
I laughed so hard that it confused him.

It Wasn't Intended as an Insult. Honest.

Kids are too funny! I love this, stinky shoes!
Come see what my kid said about bad hair days.
HAHA! Cute story
If he's like mine, he meant that as a compliment!
LOVE IT!
Hilarious!!
How do they always find just the RIGHT words?? :)
Funny story. Poor little guy. I hope you gave him a big hug.
Did you have stinky shoes for breakfast? :)

Well, considering that it came from a little boy, it was probably a huge compliment. *lol*
Love it, thanks for sharing!
that is TOO cute. You gotta love the things they say!!
How adorable, and said with all the love in his heart I'm sure. :)
Whyever would you consider that an insult?!? I STRIVE for that smell. (ok, lest you think I don't bathe...I don't REALLY strive for that smell, it just happens sometimes) :-)
Saturday night my 14 y/o, who'd been at a party, walked in the door and started gagging. "What's that awful SMELL?" he yelled. "It's like vomit!" It took us awhile, but we figured it out. It was what I'd cooked for dinner. Tactlessness is not just for the little ones anymore.
Oh my god, that is freaking hilarious.
Deb, how did you guess?! You win the prize (if there were one...)
Betsy, nice to know they never outgrow their tact. :)
Thanks for laughing with (AT) me, everyone!
I can see that following him for the rest of his life. Exquisite.
Last night (well, early this morning but still during the hours of darkness - and that means 'sleep', right?), 'Ducky' (senior girl, aged 2 and a bit) was running a stonking fever, and *needed* Momma in bed with her, so of course, I immediately detached junior girl (5months) from her midnight feast, and leaped merrily into bed with Ducky. She cuddled down deliciously, and went back to sleep, lulled there by the comforting presence of her mother. Or so I thought. A cute little voice came whispering through the night...."Mummy, you're soooooo bootiful. In the dark".
Thank you honey, and goodnight!
