Many thanks to those of you who weighed in on my bathing suit dilemma. One thing I finally concluded is that, really, brands do matter. So to accommodate my frugal self while still satisfying my desire to wear something other than a garbage bag (or seersucker) to the pool at the gym, I decided to make a last-ditch effort at Marshall's before contemplating dropping more serious money at a swanky department store (cheap department stores clearly not making suits for tall people over the age of 17). The results? SCORE!
And because many of you are asking about the suit, and unfortunately photos of bathing suits on hangers just look like shreds of cloth, here are some photos...with apologies beforehand to anyone who finds the need to run away with burning eyes.
Calvin Klein and Michael Kors, you are my new heroes. I got not one, but two suits. A lovely chocolate brown courtesy of Calvin.
And a navy blue tankini that Michael Kors seems to have designed specifically for the woman with a long torso. And the best part? The combined price of these two gems was $45. Which is why I obviously had to bring them both home.
Also [distract distract distract] isn't this antique mirror that we got for a wedding present really just the loveliest thing you've ever seen? I adore it.

Oooooh! Those are gorgeous! I may have to run to Marshalls today!! LOVE that tankini!
I still still can't believe we have the SAME suit. I love the Kors one too. Very sassy. Looks great. Now you have to try Kors heels. Okay?
First off - you are smokin' there, MT! I think I need to dust off that gym membership. *sigh*
Second - that really is a gorgeous mirror! I don't think we got anything that beautiful when we got married.
Last - you and OHMommy are one and the same? Now I want to make out with you both, at the same time. *grin*
Hurray for great deals and beautiful swimsuits. You look good girl! I wish I could say the same and stop blaming my seven children for my lack of trying to exercise.
Wow--what great finds! You're a lucky duck.
okay, dude. i see nothing to complain about and if that brown one came in black, for people with long torsos and no asses? i'd totally buy it and flaunt.
Okay going to Marshalls. My sister and I are both also tall and looking for tankinis, or two pieces NOT off of Charlie's Angels circa 1976! LOL
(No luck so far!)
Great tip, thanks!
And awesome mirror.
You ROCK! (and so does your mirror! :-) Love, love, love the suits. You better watch out, or cool bald goatee tattoo dad will be all over you like white on rice... *grin*
ok you know what, you don't need to be hiding that NICE AMAZING figure in a one piece. honestly. i am sure everyone else will agree. the suits look nice on you but i doubt there is a corset sewn in there to give you that nice form. just for that, here you go, have a cookie no take the whole plate, so you can actually look like you need to be in a one piece. otherwise the suits are gorgeous.
Julie P. -- RUN to Marshall's. Seriously. I looked so many places, and then I finally tried there, and it made me wish I'd just gone there first and made my own life easier. There were lots of options, even for long torsos.
MM, and Mommythe, and Cocoa, and Latte and Zoeyjane, you are all very kind. I'm sure it's an illusion of lighting and the wonky angle of taking pictures of myself. :) Though I will admit to having worked out 3-4 times a week for the last several weeks.
Oh I love the chocolate one!!!
Those are great! Thanks for reminding me about Marshalls!
I love them! Argh - I'm so jealous! I wish I could pull off wearing a bathing suit right now.
Wow! Fantastic suits, fantastic photos, and fantastic mirror! I wouldn't dare taking a shot of my new (ahem expensive) Lands' End suit with an old lady skirt on the bottom. And I remember when suits with skirts were SO old lady. Maybe you've just prompted me to try and post it (reminder to self, must take fuzzy photo).
You SCORED sister!
:)
That is all (love dem ambiguous emoticons!)
oh yes. beautiful and beautiful and what an amazing mirror.
i can't believe you found those at MARSHALLS! They're just perfect. What I wanna know is where you bought that bathing suit bod.
BusyDad, thanks for the :) -- I'll interpret it just exactly the way I want to.
Walsh's: I wish I could buy a better bod, but they seem to cost more than a vowel and to be harder to come by!
A better bod? You mean there IS such a thing? I doubt it.
Nice choices, and you look MAHVELOUS in that gorgeous mirror.
Better late than never, I finally posted about my new swimsuit..
