Learning to Respect My Own Limits

Son's birthday party is this coming weekend. If you've been around here long enough to remember last year's birthday party, you might recall that there is a lot to live up to in terms of expectations. Last year, we built a ceiling-high cardboard rocketship in our living room.

This year's theme is Transformers -- and I have to say that while I'm not much of a commercial characters, princesses-and-Ben-10, kind of woman, I am also not one to resist a challenge.

So I thought I'd do a little something like this for the kids who are coming:

Okay, I'm kidding. To-tall-y kidding. Honest.

In fact, this is the easiest birthday party I've ever planned because unlike all the ones in the past, there are lots of easily available things in Transformer land. Of course, Son is quite excited for the "Pin the Transformer on the Earth" game, which I will have to make. But otherwise, this party couldn't be much easier.

In fact, it's practically just an excuse to show you that insanely cool video up there, which I have been jealously guarding from Son's eyes, so as not to give him any absurd ideas. My family and close friends will tell you that this is a big step for me: I have just said NO to a complicated-time-suck-super-cool-but-unnecessary project.

It is a good day.

That video is totally cool though. Happy birthday to your little man and I hope the party is a rousing success!

Um, that's the coolest thing I've evereverever seen. And if you tried that, I'd have you committed.

But I knew there was a reason I loved you, you closet geek. :)

That is SO cool.

How does anyone even figure that kind of thing out?!

Good for you for simplifying. I think last year's rocket ship post was one of the first I ever read on this blog and then I read the post about Daughter's birthday and I was all, "Oh my God, I'm such a bad mother." LOL

OK, I got worried that you were one of those over-the-top birthday planners that set the bar waaaaay too high for the rest of us. But I should've known my soul sista was more down to earth. :-)

Oh my gosh.... I totally remember his last birthday. I can close my eyes and picture that rocket ship.

Hey that first step is the hardest :)

And that really is the coolest thing I've seen.

That is the coolest video ever! Sounds like he's going to have a great birthday party. :)

Thank God you're not taking on that project. The whole time I was watching that (very cool) video, I was thinking "That woman must be nuts to be planning to make one of those. She'll be at it until Son's 8th birthday!"

But if you do decide to take it on - I'm in need of a costume for next Hallowe'en. Bumblebee, please. ;)

I'm not sure if I exactly believe that you're not doing any major time-suck-fun-totally-useless project for his birthday..... I was actually quite surprised that I talked out out of making the dollhouse for daughter for Christmas :)
